Strong Single Performance Carries Men’s Tennis to Eight Victories on Day One of Omaha Invite

OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton men's tennis team claimed seven singles wins and a doubles victory as it opened play in the Omaha Invite on Saturday at the Koch Family Tennis Center.
The Bluejays welcomed in Omaha, North Dakota and Washburn for its home opener and the 2025 edition of the Omaha Invite.
Creighton got off to a strong start as senior Kirtan Patel went 2-0, claiming a 6-4, 6-4 straight sets victory over North Dakota's Nikita Sclearenco, before taking down Omaha's Ethan Gaubert in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5 in Group A.
Fellow senior Zachary Kuo followed suit, cruising to a 6-2, 6-2 straight sets win over North Dakota's Christos Alex to open the day. Kuo then edged out Omaha's Pavan Uppu, 6-4, 7-6 (9-7) in straight sets to open play in Group C with a 2-0 record.
Freshman Jack McMahon also went a perfect 2-0 in singles, outlasting North Dakota's Cole Wilber, 7-5, 4-6, 10-6, in a three-set thriller, before posting a 6-1, 3-6, 10-6 three-set winner over Omaha's Caleb Peterson to end the day.
In doubles action, the tandem of senior Yuma Dajima and Patel rolled to an 8-2 victory over North Dakota's Wilber and Sclearenco, while Kuo and freshman Mathis Dahler dropped a tight 8-6 decision to Washburn's Benjamin Fock and Moritz Pieper.
The Omaha Invite will conclude on Sunday with two rounds of doubles and one round of singles at the Koch Family Tennis Center.
