OMAHA, Neb. ? Senior catcher TJ Eadus of the Creighton softball team has been drafted by the New England Riptide of the National Professional Fastpitch (NPF) softball league, as announced by the league office this week. The Bluejay backstop was taken in the third round as the 14th overall selection in Monday's draft and is the first Bluejay to be drafted into the league.
The Tucson, Ariz., native is in her second year with the Bluejays. In her first season with Creighton in 2007, the catcher tied for the Missouri Valley Conference lead and set a school record with 16 home runs. She also topped the team with 42 RBI, just one shy of the single-season school mark. She was a first-team all-MVC pick and was tabbed the MVC Tournament MVP after leading the Bluejays to both the Valley regular-season and tournament titles.
This season Eadus is hitting .333 (7-21) through CU's first eight games.
Due to NCAA regulations, Eadus, as an active college student-athlete, is not eligible to sign with the Riptide until the 2008 season is completed.
The Riptide play their home games in Lowell, Mass. The six-team NPF was formed in 2004 and is based in Denver, Colo.
Eadus and the Bluejays (6-2) continue their season at the Arkansas Invitational this weekend, opening play Friday with games against Saint Louis and Alcorn State.
