
Hess Strikes Out 10 in 8-0 Win Over Alcorn State

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Amanda Hess struck out 10 Alcorn State batters in a five-inning 8-0 Creighton softball win over the Lady Braves Saturday afternoon at the Arkansas Invitational. TJ Eadus and Michelle Graner both homered and Bailey Dawson smacked two triples to pace the Bluejay offense in the win.
The Bluejays (8-2) opened scoring with a five-run second inning. Mary Egan singled to lead off the frame and scored on Graner's two-run home run. Jessica Wakasugi then walked and scored when she was followed by Dawson's first triple of the game. Dawson then crossed the plate on a squeeze bunt by Michelle Koch to put CU up 4-0. Eadus then crushed the second Bluejay home run of the inning to conclude scoring in the frame.
The Jays tacked on three more runs in the fourth inning. Wakasugi walked to lead off the inning and again scored on an RBI triple by Dawson. The Jays would tack on two more runs in the inning, including one on an RBI single by Laura Kratochvil.
Hess (1-1) recorded 10 strikeouts of the 15 outs needed in the game for the right-hander. The senior picked up her first victory of the season, allowing just two hits and one walk in the shutout.
CU pounded out 10 hits against the Lady Braves (6-9). Dawson, Eadus and Renae Sinkler each went 2-for-3 in the game.
Creighton returns to action on Sunday at the Arkansas Invitational when it plays Northern Colorado at 9 a.m. and the host Lady Razorbacks at 1:30 p.m.
