Omaha, Neb.- Senior forward Marcy Gans had a hat trick en route to Creighton defeating Northern Illinois 3-1 Sunday at Morrison Stadium.
All three of Gans' goals came in the first half, just seven and a half minutes apart. Her first came in the 12th minute as Mary Zapapas sent a header to Macy Mauer who crossed it in front of the net to Gans opening the scoring for the Bluejays.
Gans' next goal came in the 17th minute, on a free kick from about 15 yards away, putting the Creighton advantage at 2-0. She finished the Bluejay scoring for the day in the 20th minute as Shawn Magrum headed a Mary Zapapas corner in Gans' direction, and Gans was waiting on the far post to put it in. Zapapas, who had two assists on the day, set a personal career record as a Bluejay with two assists in the same game.
With her first hat trick since Nov. 9, 2007, Gans moved up in many Creighton records.
Her three goals are the most scored by a Bluejay in a game at Morrison Stadium.
Her six points are the most scored by a Bluejay at Morrison Stadium.
Her 16 points at home on the season are the highest single-season mark at Morrison Stadium. Gans had the two previous records of 14 and 13 set the last two years.
Her 7 goals on the season are the most scored at home in a single season. Gans had scored six and five times the last two years.

The Bluejays' three goals in the first half were most in any half since Sept. 22, 2006 against Grambling State, when the Bluejays also scored three.
With the win, Creighton moved to 7-3-0 on the season. It marks the first time since 2001, the Bluejays have won seven games in their first 10 matches. In 2001, the team also started 7-3-0.
After the game, Gans gave her thoughts on her accomplishment. “To get three goals is great, even getting one goal is big. I was set up by my teammates, and it was a good game offensively and defensively.”
The win moved the Bluejays to 6-0-0 at home this season, and 12-1-1 in their last 14 home games overall.
Creighton will continue its four-game homestand next Sunday at 12 p.m., as it opens conference play against Drake at Morrison Stadium.
