
Bluejays Blow Out Lady Bears, 92-63

OMAHA, Neb. ? Creighton made 15-of-23 three-pointers and shot a season-best 58.6 percent from the field in a 92-63 defeat of Missouri State Thursday night at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. Six Bluejays scored in double figures in CU's first Missouri Valley Conference win of the year. Kelsey Woodard led all players with 19 points and five three-pointers, as Creighton moved to 6-8 on the year, 1-2 in the MVC.
Missouri State (4-10, 0-3 MVC) led 10-9 and had the game tied at 15 before the Bluejays blew the game open with a 21-1 run midway through the first half. CU led 45-26 at halftime, with Chevelle Herring scoring all of her 13 points in the opening half. Herring was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field and 3-for-3 from long range in the first 20 minutes.
The Lady Bears would never get closer than 17 in the second half, as the Bluejay offense kicked in to high gear after halftime. The Bluejays had 17 second-half assists on 18 made field goals, as all 10 active players on the CU roster had at least one assist after halftime. The Jays hit 9-of-12 three-pointers in the second half, including 4-of-5 for a career-high 12 points by sophomore Stephani Rhoten. Woodard hit all four of her second-half shots, including three from beyond the arc.
CU, which shot 60 percent from the field in the second half, finished the game at 58.6 percent on 34-of-58 shooting from the floor. The field goal percentage marked the best shooting day by a Bluejay team in Jim Flanery's seven seasons at the helm.
CU's three-point percentage of 65.2 percent was its highest of the season and best since shooting 66.7 percent from three-point range on Dec. 8, 2002. The Jays' 15 trifectas were the most by a CU team since a 15-of-33 day beyond the arc against Evansville on Jan. 18, 2003, and they were the most threes ever made against a Missouri State team.
Woodard, who went 7-of-12 from three-point range in her last game, finished 7-of-12 from the field and 5-of-9 from long range for her game-high 19 points Thursday night. Megan Neuvirth finished with 18 points and tied her career-high with eight assists.
Kellie Nelson came off the bench for a season-high 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Herring finished with 13 points, all in the first half. Kristina Voss added 12 points and five rebounds.
Rhoten was 3-for-13 from the field this season, before making 4-of-5 three-pointers for a career-best 12 points in the win. Six Bluejays scored in double figures for the first time since an 89-79 win at Memphis on Dec. 6, 2006.
Casey Garrison led the Lady Bears with 15 points, while Jacque Griggs added 11 points and seven rebounds for MSU.
