Men's Soccer Picks Up 3-0 Win at Bradley

PEORIA, Ill. - Sophomore Ethan Finlay scored twice and senior Seth Sinovic notched an assist and a goal in a 3-0 Creighton men's soccer victory at Bradley Wednesday night. The win gives the Bluejays the season series sweep of the Braves and moves their overall record to 6-3-3. The Jays are now 4-2-2 and remain in first place in the Missouri Valley Conference with the win.
Finlay scored his first goal of the night in the 15th minute, as he found the back of the net with assists from Kris Clark and Dion Acoff. The Jays carried that 1-0 lead into halftime, out-shooting the Braves 8-4 in the first 45 minutes.
The match remained 1-0 until the 61st minute, when Bradley (5-8-1, 0-6-0 MVC) was whistled for a hand ball inside the penalty box. Sinovic was called upon to take Creighton's first penalty kick of the season, converting the attempt to give the Jays a 2-0 lead at the 60:22 mark. Sinovic's third goal of the season ties his career high which he established last year.
Creighton knocked in its third goal of the night just nine minutes later, when Finlay knocked in Sinovic's corner kick in the 70th minute - the second time this season the duo combined on a corner kick goal against the Braves. Finlay now has a team-best six goals, including four game-winners, this season.
"As a team we looked good tonight, players took care of their responsibilities and worked very well together," said head coach Bob Warming. "I really like the team that Bradley has and I really do think they can put together several wins to close out this season. It just goes to show you how fragile this sport is between wins and losses."
The Jays ended the match with a 15-8 shots advantage and 7-2 edge in corner kicks.
Brian Holt made three saves in goal for his sixth shutout of the season and his 18th career clean sheet.
The Bluejays will remain in Illinois until they play at Eastern Illinois this Saturday at 2 p.m. Creighton has defeated the Panthers in 14 straight meetings and scored a season-high five goals against EIU in Omaha on Oct. 11.
NOTES: Creighton wore black arm bands Wednesday night in honor of former player and current student assistant coach Tim Walters' mother Dawn, who passed away Monday morning. Tim wrote the team an inspirational e-mail prior to Wednesday night's match. Dawn Walters loved the Creighton men's soccer program and the team is dedicating the remainder of the season in her memory ... Peoria native Nick O'Neill made his first career start in the match ... Creighton is now 22-5-1 all-time against Bradley, 13-2-1 in the last 16 meetings and 10-4-0 in Peoria ... The loss was Bradley's 10 straight MVC defeat, dating to last year ... The Bluejays are 14-2-5 in their last 21 matches away from home ... CU has won its last 13 matches following ties ... CU is 42-8-10 in October since 2002 ... The Bluejays improved to 16-0-1 all-time when senior Trent Senske appears in a match.
