
Bluejays Win 10th Straight, Top Aces 68-57

OMAHA, Neb. ? Chevelle Herring scored a game-high 21 and the Creighton women's basketball team moved its winning streak to 10 games with a 68-57 win over Evansville Thursday night at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. All five Bluejay starters had at least three assists as the Jays moved to 15-8 on the year and 10-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference with the 11-point win.
Both teams came out of the gate on fire from the field, with the Aces using perimeter shooting early to take the lead. Evansville (9-14, 2-10 MVC) made four of its first five three-pointers in the ball game, capped by a trey from Jordan Lewis to make the score 16-15 in favor of the Aces.
Creighton would score the game's next 10 points to claim the lead for good. The Bluejays hi 13-of-26 shots in the first half to own a 31-25 lead at the break.
Robyn Jennings scored the first bucket of the second half for UE to cut the Jays lead to four, but the home team would follow with a 13-3 run to push ahead by 14 with less than four minutes gone in the second half. CU would hold its double-digit lead for the remainder of the game, leading by as many as 22 before the Aces closed the game on a 15-4 run to make the final margin 11 points.
Herring, who was held scoreless on an 0-for-8 performance from the field in CU's last game, bounced back with her highest scoring MVC game of the year. She hit 8-of-16 shots from the field and tied her career-high with five three-pointers, in addition to her five assists, four rebounds and team-best three steals.
Kelsey Crites, who made her first start in over a year, added a season-high 10 points for the Jays. Kristina Voss also chipped in 10 points and a season-high four assists.
Megan Neuvirth fell one point shy of a double-double, finishing with nine points and 15 rebounds. Kelsey Woodard dished six assists to lead the Jays.
The Bluejays finished with 22 assists on 28 field goals in the contest, while shooting 48.3 percent in the game. CU out-rebounded UE 42-34 and dominated the Aces in the paint, 32-18. CU also broke UE's press for 15 fast break points.
Ashley Austin led all players with a career-high 10 assists, while Jennings came off the bench to lead the Aces with 13 points. Shannon Novosel scored 10 of UE's first 13 points, but finished with 12 in the game.
