FARGO, N.D. - Creighton's scoreless streak was halted at five matches as North Dakota State used a second half goal from Morgan DeMike to top the Bluejays 1-0 Tuesday afternoon Ellig Sports Complex.
The Bison (2-1-1 overall) struck for their only goal at 57:23 in the second half. Abbey Stratton booted a pass to the top of the box that DeMike corralled. DeMike fired a shot that found its way past Creighton's Alicia Montgomery into the lower right corner for the game's only goal.
"We played very hard today and had our chances to score but just couldn't find the net," said head coach Bruce Erickson. "NDSU is a tough, difficult team to play and we will have to learn from this type of game so it can help us in the future. We dominated the stats but that doesn't always win you the game," Erickson added.
Creighton (3-1-1 overall) held a sizable advantage in shots with a 19-9 margin. It was an evenly played first half, as Creighton held just a 6-4 advantage in shots before pressing for the tying goal in the second half, out-shooting the Bison 13-5.
The loss ended a few streaks for the Jays as their consecutive shutout streak ended at five matches. Time-wise, it was the first goal the Jays had given up in just over 612 minutes (612:53) of play. Montgomery also saw her personal scoreless streak end at 558:27.
The win by North Dakota State was also just the second by a Summit League opponent over Creighton. CU's record against the league now stands at 26-2-3 with the other loss coming to the same Bison squad back in 2007 in Fargo.
The Jays will be back at home this weekend when they host Cal State Northridge on Friday and Lamar (Texas) on Sunday. Kickoff on Friday is set for 7:00 p.m.
