
Crimson Tops Baseball 5-2

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Harvard posted a pair of runs in the sixth and eighth innings to salvage a 5-2 victory over Creighton, in the teams' final game at the Metrodome Tournament.
Trever Adams homered for the Bluejays (8-4) and Alex Staehely posted an RBI single to pace the Bluejay offense. Adams was the only Jay with multiple hits, finishing 2-for-4.
Kurt Spomer (0-1) suffered the loss, giving up the go-ahead run on a Dan Zailskis double in the sixth. Eric Eadington (1-1) picked up the victory, going seven strong innings. Zailskis came on to pitch the final two innings for his first save of the season.
The Jays got out to a 2-0 lead, courtesy of Adams and Staehely. Adams blasted a 414-foot shot to center field in the first inning for a 1-0 Creighton lead. Staehely followed in the second with a two-out single up the middle, scoring T.J. Roemmich for the second Jay run.
It was all Crimson from there, as they cut into the lead in the fourth as Zailskis knocked in his first run with a sac fly to shallow center.
Harvard posted the winning runs in the sixth, as Samuel Franklin walked and scored on a Jeff Reynolds single. Reynolds would come around on Zailskis' double for the game-winner.
Harvard pulled away with a pair of runs in the eighth with a pair of runs off Mark Winkelman, as Reynolds knocked in his second run with a double to left-center and a pinch-hit, ground-rule double from Marcus Way.
Reynolds led the Crimson, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Sean O'Hara also scored two runs and Zailskis finished with two RBI.
After the second, the Jays managed just three hits of Eadington and Zailskis, as the pair combined for just four strikeouts, but walked just one.
Creighton will play Kansas State in Manhattan, Kan. on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
NOTES: Robbie Knight's streaks of 106 starts and 153 games played were snapped, as he sat out Sunday's tournament finale ... Ty Blach and Michael Blatchford made their first career starts ... The game was the first-ever between Harvard and Creighton.
