OMAHA, Neb. -- College basketball fans can be a part of ESPN's national “Midnight Madness” television coverage on ESPNU and catch their first glimpse of the 2011-12 Creighton basketball teams by attending “Bluejay Madness” at D.J. Sokol Arena inside the Wayne and Eileen Ryan Athletic Center on Friday, October 14.
Creighton is scheduled to be one of 11 institutions featured on ESPNU's program, along with Connecticut, Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, Syracuse, Michigan State, Louisville, Kansas, Baylor and Texas A&M.
The basketball event will begin no earlier than 8:30 p.m., or approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of that night's Creighton women's volleyball match against Bradley (6:30 p.m., first-serve. All of the basketball festivities will be video webcast free of charge on GoCreighton.com.
The basketball event will include introductions of the players from both the women's and men's teams, a three-point shooting contest, scrimmages by both squads, a men's team dunk contest and comments to the crowd by head coaches Greg McDermott and Jim Flanery.
Admission is free to the basketball event and fans are encouraged to wear a blue shirt to create a “blue-out” effect for the national television audience. Concessions will be available for purchase throughout the event and 2011-12 roster sheets for each team will be available free of charge.
The event is scheduled to run for about 90 minutes and players from both teams will be available for autographs at the event's conclusion.
CU Athletics Ticket Office personnel will be available throughout the event for fans interested in purchasing men's or women's basketball season tickets.
Doors to D.J. Sokol Arena will open at 5:30 pm on Friday and require a volleyball ticket to enter. A line for "basketball-only" fans will be formed outside the South side of D.J. Sokol Arena near the ticket office, and those fans will be permitted to enter (as space allows) following the intermission of the volleyball match for no charge.
Throughout the night, Creighton students with a valid ID should enter through the entrance in the northwest corner (as space allows).
