SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Gabriel Thibodeaux had a two-out double, driving in a pair of runs in the fourth inning, but it wouldn't be enough, as Creighton fell 7-2 to Sacramento State on Wednesday.
The Bluejays will look to end their California trip on a strong note when they take on Pacific in a three-game series. The series opener is set for Friday, March 9, with the first pitch slated for 8:00 pm Central Time.
The Bluejays got on the board in the top of the fourth inning, courtesy of a two-out rally. With two outs, Alex Staehely drove a single into left field. Anthony Bemboom then chopped a ball into the ground that bounced over the first baseman's head, putting runners on the corners. Gabriel Thibodeaux then put a ball up in the air to right field that traveled over the right fielder's head, scoring both Staehely and Bemboom.
Shane Liska came on the mound in the middle of the second inning and shut the Hornets down. In just his third outing of the season, Liska threw 3.0 innings, allowing just two hits and one earned run. He struck out one batter in his three innings of work.
Freshman Mark Lukowski made his first appearance in a Bluejay uniform on Wednesday, throwing a scoreless inning in the bottom of the fifth. The freshman surrendered just one hit in his first outing.
The Hornet bats were aggressive from the first pitch, pushing across four runs in the bottom of the first inning and adding three more in the second. The team combined for five doubles in the first two innings of play, but would not hit another through the conclusion of the game.
