OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton women's soccer team fell to Kansas, 3-0, on Friday, Aug. 31.
The loss dropped the Jays to 1-3-1 on the season, while Kansas moved to 4-1-0.
Creighton fell behind early in the opening period as Kansas turned a Jays penalty into a goal at 3:54. Amy Grow sent the Kansas free kick to Ashley Williams, who tapped her third goal of the season past senior Katie Jo Swanson.
Kansas continued to attack as the period wore on, but Swanson and the Jays defense steadied themselves, holding the Jayhawks scoreless for the remainder of the opening frame. Kansas fired 17 shots in the first period, but led only 1-0 at the break.
The Jayhawks found the back of the net again early in the second half as well. This time Williams found Caroline Kastor with a crossing shot in the 53rd minute for Kastor's third goal of 2012.
One more time the Bluejays stiffened, holding off Kansas until the closing minutes. At the 86:03 mark, Williams connected on her fourth goal of the season on a pass from Nicole Chrisopulous.
Despite allowing the three goals, Swanson has a strong showing for the Jays. She recorded nine saves, one below a career high, facing 26 shots overall. Kat Liebetrau faced four shots in the Kansas goal, recording one save.
The Bluejays return home to Morrison Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 2. The Jays will host Arizona at 7 p.m. The Wildcats enter the contest at 1-2-0 this season.
