Sarah Nelson Named Candidate for Senior CLASS Award

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Creighton forward Sarah Nelson is one of 30 women's basketball student-athletes who excel both on and off the court that were selected as candidates today for the 2013-14 Senior CLASS Award®.
An Omaha native, Nelson boasts a 3.7 GPA, majoring in Pre-Health Science and Finance. On the court she equally excels, finishing second for the Jays in scoring last season at 11.7 points per game (387) and led the Jays with 7.8 rebounds per contest (258 overall).
The forward is also adept at finding her teammates, collecting 115 assists. She was the top rated post player in assist-to-turnover rating in the NCAA at 1.89 per game, placing Nelson 41st in the country.
Nelson was selected to the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Scholar-Athlete First Team for the second consecutive year (2012 & 2013), Nelson also earned All-MVC First Team honors.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of candidates follows this release.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2014 NCAA Men's Final Four®.
Each of the 30 candidate classes will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate who best exemplify excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
