
Creighton Falls to Villanova, 2-0

OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss to Villanova on Thursday, Oct. 16 in the Bluejays' annual 'Pink Game' to raise awareness of breast cancer.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 9-5-1 overall and 1-4-1 in BIG EAST play, while Villanova moved to 5-8-2 on the season and 3-3-0 in conference action.
Villanova took a 1-0 lead midway through the opening period as Caitlin Forte split two Bluejay defenders and served a pass from the center of the field to the right side of the goal box. The ball found the right foot of Hayley Wilson for a crossing goal from eight yards away, it was Wilson's first goal of the season.
Creighton controlled possession for much of the first half. The Bluejays had their chances to pull even, earning three corner kicks. Creighton, however, missed their best chances as shots from seniors Addison Nokels and Madelyn Buckner sailed wide and high.Possession was more balanced in the second period. Creighton earned the first chance as a header by junior Alyssa Jara went just high in the 47th minute of play. Villanova appeared poised to take control of the game in the 83rd minute, earning a penalty kick. Amanda Vocelka's effort bounced off the right post (82:05). Less than 90 seconds later Forte fielded a pass from Kuefler outside the box, then split two defenders for the clinching goal.
Villanova finished with 12 shots, while Creighton had just nine. The Bluejays, meanwhile, held the edge with seven corners to just one for Villanova.
Creighton returns to the pitch on Sunday as the Bluejays host #25 Georgetown at 1 p.m. in Morrison Stadium.
