
Lamberty Guides Women's Basketball Past Omaha, 67-50

OMAHA, Neb. - Behind a career-high 20 points from freshman Sydney Lamberty, the Creighton women's basketball team bested Omaha, 67-50, on Saturday, Dec. 20.
Creighton moved to 6-5 with the win, while Omaha fell to 5-6 overall.
Omaha jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the first two minutes of play. The Mavericks stretched their lead to as much as eight points at 13-5 (15:37) and held the lead into the late stages of the first half.
With Creighton trailing 15-10 (12:01), the Bluejays pulled even behind a 7-2 run. Junior Taylor Johnson dropped in one of two free throws to start the rally. Lamberty followed with a three-pointer to make it 15-14. After a Maverick bucket, Johnson knotted the game at 17-17 with 10:46 remaining.
Down 21-19 with 8:00 remaining, Creighton seized its first lead with seven straight points. Junior Tessa Leytem kick started the rally with pull-up jumper to tie the game at 21-21. Lamberty claimed the Bluejays' first lead on a layup, then pushed it to 26-21 (4:35) by knocking down a trey.
Leading 30-28 at the break, the Bluejays took control in the opening moments of the second half as Creighton scored the first 11 points to build a 41-28 edge (16:23). The tandem of Lamberty (five points) and sophomore MC McGrory (six point) combined for the 11-0 run.
Creighton pushed its lead to 18 (53-35) by the 10-minute mark and led by 27 with three minutes remaining (67-40).
Lamberty led the Bluejays with a career-high 20 points, while senior Alexis Akin-Otiko (12) and Marissa Janning (10) also reached double figures.
Remy Davenport led Omaha with 15 points off the bench.
The Bluejays return to action on Monday, Dec. 22 as Creighton hosts Kansas at 6:05 p.m.
