GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The Creighton women's soccer team unleashed 38 shots as the Bluejays dominated North Dakota, 3-0, on Friday, Sept. 12.
With the win the Bluejays set the Creighton program record for the best start to a season, moving to 6-0-0. North Dakota, meanwhile, fell to 1-4-0.
The Bluejays got on the board midway through the opening period as North Dakota was called for a foul in the box on a Creighton corner. Senior Madelyn Bucker calmly strode to the penalty kick and knocked in her second goal on a penalty kick opportunity in 2014.
Just over five minutes later Creighton's pressure on the North Dakota end led to an own goal, pushing the Bluejay lead to 2-0 at the 37:39 mark. Creighton took the 2-0 lead into the break.
In the second period the Bluejays tacked on another goal as junior Anastasia McCleary took a through pass from junior Alyssa Jara for her second goal of the year.
The final shot totals saw the Bluejays with a 38-10 edge, while North Dakota was called for 16 fouls to just eight by the Jays.
"I'm very pleased with our workwomanlike performance in a physical match," said head coach Bruce Erickson. "On a day that the conditions and the physicality made it difficult to play, we performed well."
Creighton returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 14 as the Bluejays face off with South Dakota at 1 p.m. (CT) in Vermillion, S.D.
