Jara's Multi-Goal Game Leads Creighton WSOC Past South Dakota 3-1

VERMILLION, S.D. - Two goals from junior Alyssa Jara, her second multi-goal of the season, pushed the Creighton women's soccer team to a 3-1 win over South Dakota on Sunday, Sept. 14.
Creighton extended its program best start to a season, moving to 7-0-0 with the win. South Dakota, meanwhile, fell to 4-4-0.
Jara put the Bluejays ahead early with a goal in the sixth minute of play as she gathered a pass into the box that was deflected by a Coyote defender, then knocked in her fourth goal of the year into an empty net.
South Dakota responded with a series of shots only to see Creighton goalkeeper Danielle Rice rise to the challenge with save after save.
In the 20th minute of play Jara struck again to tally her fifth goal. Senior Stephanie Anasi started the scoring play with a pass to junior Alissa Kohmetscher, who threaded a pass through three defenders to Jara for a goal from 10 yards out.
The score remained 2-0 through halftime and into the final 15 of the contest when junior Kirstyn Corder put the game out of reach with her fifth goal of the season. Corder fielded a pass from freshman Summer Khalil in the box, then slid the goal into the back of the net at the 75:14 mark.
South Dakota got a late goal from Elena Tsakakis (82:39), but it didn't matter as the Bluejays easily disposed of the Coyotes.
"We played well in the first half and Jara had a couple of great goals," said head coach Bruce Erickson. "South Dakota was chasing the game in the second hald and credit them as they outworked us in that half."
Rice finished with a season-high eight saves, while South Dakota's Mackenzie Viktor finished with three saves.
Creighton returns to the pitch in the friendly confines of Morrison Stadium on Friday, Sept. 19 as the Bluejays host UMKC at 7:00 p.m.
