
Women's Soccer Suffers First Loss of the Season, 2-0 to UMKC

OMAHA, Neb. - Creighton Women's Soccer's seven-match winning streak came to an end on Friday, Sept. 19 as the Bluejays fell to UMKC, 2-0.
The loss dropped Creighton to 7-1-0 overall, while UMKC moved to 4-3-2.
After a scoreless opening period it was UMKC that scratched the scoreboard first in the 62nd minute. Kaely Tott sent a strong shot from the 20-yards away alongthe right side. Creighton keeper, sophomore Danielle Rice, made the save but a knockdown in the box forced the ball into the air and off the back of Stephanie Anasi. The result was an own goal, giving the Roos a 1-0 lead.
Just under five minutes later UMKC's Ellie Chadick headed in a pass from 12 yards outside the box. Nikki Lynch sent the pass to Chadick, a lofting ball from 25 yards away.
UMKC appeared to take an early 1-0 lead in the opening period as the Roos touched a ball into the net but were ruled offside in the 35th minute.
Creighton outshot the Roos, 16 to 13. UMKC, meanwhile, earned three corners to just one for the Bluejays.
UMKC keeper, Nina Tzianos, made eight saves to post her second shutout of the season. Rice closed the game with three saves.
The Bluejays return to the pitch on Sunday, Sept. 21 as Creighton travels up the road to face the Omaha Mavericks at 4 p.m.
