OMAHA, Neb. -- The No. 1 ranked Creighton men's soccer team ran its record to a perfect 10-0-0 with a 1-0 win over visiting DePaul on Saturday night before 3,387 fans at Morrison Stadium.
Hermann Trophy candidate Fabian Herbers scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 35th minute, as Ricardo Perez flicked Lucas Stauffer's throw in to Herbers, who took two dribbles and buried a shot into the upper left of the net.
It was the BIG EAST-leading ninth goal of the season for Herbers, the nation's only player with a goal or assist in every team game this season. It was also his fourth game-winning goal of 2015, which ties him for second nationally.
Herbers is the first Creighton player to record at least one point in the first 10 matches of a season since the program was relaunched in 1990.
Creighton outshot DePaul, 28-4, for the game and owned the game's first five corners before two from DePaul in the final minute. The second corner resulted in the Blue Demons best chance of the night, as Anton Sell's header went barely wide.
The Bluejays limited DePaul to just two shots in each half.
Connor Sparrow made one save in goal for Creighton for his seventh shutout of the fall and 21st in 36 career starts as a Bluejay.
Creighton entered the match as the only team in NCAA Division I (men's or women's) to rank in the national top five in both scoring offense and goals against average.
With the victory, the 2015 Bluejay squad becomes the second team in program history to begin a season with 10 or more consecutive wins, joining the 1993 team which began the season 19-0-0 before falling in the NCAA tournament to Air Force.
Creighton hosts former Missouri Valley Conference rival Drake on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
