Bluejay Baseball Rallies for 4-3 Win in 10-Innings

NATCHITOCHES, La. - Trailing 3-2 entering the top of the ninth, the Creighton Baseball team rallied to claim a 4-3 win in 10 innings in the opening game of a doubleheader at Northwestern State on Friday, Feb. 20.
Junior Harrison Crawford ignited Creighton's ninth inning rally as he was hit by a pitch to open the frame. The California native stole second, then went to third on a one-out single to left by senior Kevin Lamb. Sophomore Kevin Connolly completed the rally with a game-tying sacrifice fly to center.
Tied at 3-3, Creighton called senior Mark Lukowski from the bullpen to give the Bluejays another chance at the dish. Lukowski sent down the first two hitters he faced, then worked around a hit batter to send the game to the tenth.
Junior Reagan Fowler opened the extra frame by blasted a double down the right field line. Fowler quickly moved to third on a groundout by junior Brett Murray, then scampered home on a sacrifice fly from junior Ryan Fitzgerald to make it 4-3.
Senior Max Ising worked around two singles in the tenth to pick up his first save of 2015, giving Lukowski (1-0) the win.
Before the Bluejays late inning efforts the starters battled in a pitcher's duel. Creighton senior Jack Rogalla held Northwestern State to one run on four hits in six innings, while the Demons' Adam Oller allowed two unearned runs on four hits in 6.2 innings.
Creighton got on the board first in the second inning as Murray reached on an infield single. Fitzgerald moved him to second with a sacrifice bunt. Murray took third on an error, then scored on an RBI groundout.
Northwestern State pulled even in the fourth on a leadoff double by Bret Underwood and an RBI single from Cort Brinson.
Creighton pulled ahead again in the seventh on a hit, a hit batter and a fielding error. The Demons, however, scored two in the bottom half of the frame to set up the dramatic finish.
The Bluejays and Demons will play the second game of today's doubleheader at approximately 5:30 pm
