Lamberty Earns Fifth Freshman of the Week of 2014-15

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Freshman Sydney Lamberty returned to the stage with her fifth BIG EAST Freshman of the Week award on Monday, Feb. 9. Senior Alexis Akin-Otiko joined the praise with a spot on the BIG EAST Honor Roll.
Lamberty and Akin-Otiko led the Bluejays to a sweep of St. John's (75-50 on Feb. 6) and #24 Seton Hall (81-73 on Feb. 8) during a weekend road trip to the New York, New Jersey area.
Riding a five-game winning streak the Bluejays have just one game this week as Creighton hosts Providence in Creighton's annual Pink Game on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 1 pm.

Sydney Lamberty, Creighton, Fr., G
Lamberty helped key a pair of crucial road wins for the Bluejays, averaging 14.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists against two of the top teams in the league. In Friday's win at NR/RV St. John's, the rookie totaled 11 points, five boards and three assists in just 28 minutes on the court. In Sunday's win over RV/24 Seton Hall, Lamberty was one of four Creighton players to score in double figures, with 17 points, include a trio of three-pointers. She added a pair of dimes and six rebounds against the Pirates in the Bluejays' upset win in South Orange.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Brittany Hrynko, DePaul, Sr., G
In a pair of road wins last week, Hrynko led the league with a 23.0 points per game scoring average to go along with 4.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists. The weekend was highlighted by matching the DePaul program record with eight three-pointers at Xavier on Sunday en route to 32 points in just 27 minutes on the court. Hrynko's eight threes are the most by a single player in league play this season, matching the 2013-14 single-game high by Megan Rogowski. For the week, Hrynko shot .531 from the field and .647 from deep, while her 11 triples bumped her career BIG EAST regular-season game total to 147, ranking sixth in conference history.
Weekly Honor Roll
Alexis Akin-Otiko, Creighton, Sr., F
Akin-Otiko helped lead the Bluejays to a pair of important road wins at St. John's and Seton Hall, averaging 18.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in the victories. She notched a double-double of 20 points and 10 boards against the nationally ranked Pirates.
Caroline Coyer, Villanova, Jr., G
Coyer was untouchable in the Wildcats' lone game of the week, a road win at Georgetown. The junior totaled 23 points, 13 rebounds and five assists while not turning the ball over once in 37 minutes.
Briana Glover, Xavier, Jr., G
Glover averaged 18.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and a .714 shooting clip in a 1-1 weekend for the Musketeers. Her 26 points in the win over Marquette on Friday marked a career high.
Ka-Deidre Simmons, Seton Hall, Grad., G
Simmons averaged 16.0 points, 6.0 assists and 2.5 steals in a 1-1 weekend for the Pirates, including a 17-point, seven-assist showing against Providence on Friday.
Ijeoma Uchendu, Butler, Sr., F
Uchendu's weekend was highlighted by a 27-point, 13-rebound showing against Marquette on Sunday, while the senior forward averaged 20.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists over the two-game weekend.
