Softball Drops Series Finale to Seton Hall

OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton softball team dropped its series finale to Seton Hall 12-1 in six innings at the CU Sports Complex on Sunday.

Creighton (17-12, 3-7 BIG EAST) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over Seton Hall (17-20, 6-5 BIG EAST) but the Pirates scored 12 unanswered, including a six-run sixth frame, to put the game out of reach.

Junior Kelsey Allender was one of four Bluejays to record a hit in the contest, leading off the game with a single. In the next inning she hit a long sacrifice fly to right field to bring in the Jays' lone run of the day.

CU junior Micaela Whitney earned the start in the circle and held the Pirates at bay through the first two innings.

Creighton produced three hits and a run in the first two innings. The Bluejays scored after a one-out rally in the second. Sophomore Jen Daro took a hit by pitch and classmate Anna O'Gorman followed with a walk. Next up, senior Bri McMahon singled to left field to load the bases. Allender then hit a long sacrifice fly to right to score a run and put CU up 1-0 early.

But the Pirates' bats awoke over the next four innings that saw at least one home run for the visitors in each frame.

Seton Hall led off the third with a solo homer that cut the CU lead in half and caused a Bluejay pitching change as sophomore Sydnee Eck came on to pitch. The Pirates later evened the score after a Creighton error.

SHU led off the fourth inning with a solo home run to give the Pirates the lead for good.

Seton Hall continued to utilize the home run ball to score nine runs over the final two innings.

Eck dropped to 6-5 with the loss.

Creighton hits the road for a six-game road swing next week beginning with a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday at South Dakota State before visiting DePaul for BIG EAST series next weekend.
