LINCOLN, Neb. – The Creighton softball team dropped a midweek game 11-1 at Nebraska inside the Cornhuskers' Bowlin Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The Creighton (20-15) defense could not close out an inning as Nebraska (26-19) scored all 11 runs with two outs on the board. The Jays managed two hits against the Huskers.
Sophomore Sydnee Eck earned the start in the circle for Creighton.
Nebraska opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with back-to-back home runs to take an early 2-0 lead.
The Cornhuskers then exploded for seven runs on seven hits and two Bluejay errors. CU made a pitching change midway through the NU rally to give the ball to junior Micaela Whitney but the Husker offense continued to score and built a 9-0 lead after two complete.
Creighton scored in the top of the third on an RBI single to right center from senior and Lincoln native Liz Dike to score junior Michelle Trulin and make the score 9-1.
Nebraska added two more scores in the bottom of the frame to extend the lead to 11-1.
Eck took the loss to drop to 9-7 this season.
Creighton returns to the CU Sports Complex to host BIG EAST leader St. John's for a three-game set beginning with a Saturday doubleheader at noon CT. The Bluejays will honor their seniors in between games against the Red Storm.
