Baseball Wraps Up Regular Season with 4-3 Win Over Villanova

OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton Baseball team closed out the regular season with a 4-3 win over Villanova to sweep the series from the Wildcats on Saturday, May 16.
The Bluejays wrapped up the 2015 regular season with a 30-17 record and a 13-4 mark in BIG EAST play, while Villanova fell to 22-28 overall and 7-11 in conference play.
Creighton took charge early with three runs as sophomore Daniel Woodrow laced a single to center, stole second and went to third on a bunt single from sophomore Nicky Lopez. Junior Reagan Fowler lofted a sac fly to center to bring home Woodrow, then junior Harrison Crawford belted a two-run home run over the left field wall to make it 3-0.
Creighton got its final run in the fifth by following the path the Bluejays took in the first. Woodrow was hit by a pitch, then stole second. He went to third on a sac bunt by Lopez and scored on a sac fly from Fowler.
Give credit to the Wildcats for their fight as Villanova plated single runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings, but were unable to deliver a critical hit.
The turning point in the game came in the seventh as Creighton used five pitchers before freshman Ethan DeCaster got out of a bases loaded, one out jam with a 6-4-3 double play.
Junior Taylor Elman picked up the win (2-1) for the Bluejays with a scoreless inning, while sophomore David Gerber earned his eight save of the season with a scoreless ninth.
Crawford finished the day 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored to lead the offense.
Creighton will back in action on Thursday, May 21 as the Bluejays play the night game on the first day of the BIG EAST Tournament against No. 3 Seton Hall at 7:00 pm.
