Baseball Comes Up Just Short Against Nevada, 5-4

OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton Baseball team came up just short, falling 5-4, against Nevada on Friday, May 8.
The loss dropped Creighton to 27-15, while Nevada moved to 39-12.
The Bluejays claimed the lead with a run in the top of the first as sophomore Daniel Woodrow laced a leadoff double to right-center. He went to third on a balk, then came home on an RBI single from sophomore Nicky Lopez.
After the Wolf Pack pulled even on an RBI single from Jay Anderson in the top of the second, Creighton reclaimed the lead via an RBI double from sophomore Kevin Connolly in its half of the frame. The Bluejays, however, left the bases loaded in the frame as Creighton settled for a 2-1 lead.
Nevada made the missed opportunity sting even more with single runs in the third and fifth frames to take a 3-2 edge.
Creighton responded with two runs of its own in the bottom of the sixth as the Bluejays turned two walks and a sac bunt into a two-run single for Connolly to seize a 4-3 edge.
Nevada answered once more in the top of the eighth, delivering the decisive blow when Bryce Greager greeted Bluejay reliever Ethan DeCaster with a two-run single to give Nevada a 5-4 edge.
Connolly's led Creighton's offense with two hits and three RBI.
Nevada's Zach Wilkins got the win (2-0) in relief for the Wolf Pack, retiring the only batter he faced. Meanwhile Adam Whitt picked up his 14th save of the season with two scoreless innings. Creighton's Connor Miller suffered the loss (3-2), allowing two runs on two hits in two innings of relief.
The Bluejays and Wolf Pack will continue their three-game series on Saturday, May 9 at 2 pm.
