Bluejay Baseball Scores 16 Unanswered to Walk Off North Dakota State, 16-4

Isaac Wachsmann got the Bluejays on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run to center field. With the lid off the run column, Creighton pushed eight runs across in the fifth, one in the sixth and six in the seventh to seal the run rule win on a three-run walk off home run by Lew Rice.
Creighton's fifth frame began with a one-out single through the right side from Ben North. The Minnesota native stole second and third and saw walks to Wachsmann and Connor Capece load the bases. Creighton plated a pair on a ball through the legs of Bison shortstop Kaden Connor. After another walk reloaded the bags, Rice drove an RBI single to center to knot the game at 4-4, then Nate McHugh laced a two-out two-run single through the left side. Teddy Deters followed with a no doubter over the left field wall to give Creighton a 9-4 edge.
The Bluejays tacked on a run in sixth on an RBI single from Nick Venteicher. In the seventh North and Capece delivered RBI singles and another run scored on a balk to make it 13-4. Finally Rice connected on a 3-2 pitch over the right field wall to close out the contest.Â
Reliever Max McClellan struck out the side in the fifth to earn his first win as a Bluejay (1-0), while Bison reliever AJ Doll took the loss (0-1). Doll allowed four runs (three earned) on two hits and a walk in one-third of an inning.
The Bluejays return to the diamond on Friday, April 10 to open a three-game series with Seton Hall at Charles Schwab Field Omaha at 6:00 pm.
