ST. THOMAS, US VIRGIN ISLANDS -- The No. 12 Creighton Men's Basketball team overcame an 11-point deficit to rally and beat Ole Miss, 86-77, in the championship game of the 2016 Paradise Jam.
The victory improves Creighton to 5-0 on the year, while Ole Miss is now 4-1.
Rasheed Brooks scored eight points as the Rebels uncorked a 10-0 run midway through the first half to take a 25-17 lead. Ole Miss would eventually build that margin as large as 41-30 before Marcus Foster capped a stretch with 13 points in a six-minute stretch with his third trifecta of the half.
Ole Miss led 46-40 at the break behind 16 points from Brooks and 11 more by Deandre Burnett. The Rebels led 26-11 on the glass in the first half, including a 17-4 lead in second-chance points. The Bluejays made 7-of-11 three-point shots in the first half, but hit just 7-of-23 baskets inside the arc in the first 20 minutes.
The Bluejays trailed 63-57 before a trio of three-pointers by Toby Hegner helped spark a 17-7 spurt as CU went ahead 74-70 with 6:29 to go.
After Ole Miss evened the score at 74-all, Khyri Thomas converted a 3-point play in transition to give CU a lead. After two defensive stops, Justin Patton threw down his third dunk of the night as CU went up 79-74 with just under three minutes left.
The Bluejays would gradually pull away, moving ahead by nine with 39 seconds left as the Rebels elected let the clock run out and not foul CU down the stretch.
Foster was named Tournament MVP, while Cole Huff was also named to the All-Tourney team. Foster finished with a season-best 25 points and added a team-high six rebounds. Thomas had 11 of his 16 points in the second half, while Hegner sank four three-pointers to finish with 12 points.
Also in double-figures was Justin Patton, who threw down three more dunks and finished with 11 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots. Maurice Watson Jr. led CU with seven assists and added nine points and five rebounds. The Bluejays drained 16-of-26 three-pointers and 31-of-59 field goal attempts overall.
