TEMPE, Ariz. -Â A pair of late-inning comebacks proved costly for Creighton Softball on Friday as the Bluejays completed their third and fourth games within a 24-hour stretch.
In Creighton's opening matchup of the day, the Bluejays (1-3) entered the sixth inning knotted in a 2-2 deadlock with reigning Big West regular-season champion Cal State Northridge; however, the Matadors (1-0) plated one run in the bottom of the frame to escape with a narrow, 3-2 win.
Much like its previous contest, Creighton was tied with UC Riverside, 2-2, until the final inning when the Highlanders (1-1) capitalized on a Creighton fielding error to keep their frame alive, eventually scoring three runs on a two-out, bases-clearing double by Chelsey Holley.
Creighton will take on BYU, which won the West Coast Conference regular-season title last season, on Sunday at 10:00 a.m., in the Bluejays' final contest in the Kajikawa Classic. For updates, follow @BluejaySoftball on Twitter.

CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE
Creighton pitchers Micaela Whitney and Sydnee Eck each tossed three innings of work versus CSUN, combining to allow just two earned runs while fanning eight Matador batters.
The Bluejays jumped out to an early lead following a first-inning, RBI single by Blake Ringle that plated Anna O'Gorman.
O'Gorman then extended the Bluejays' lead to 2-0 in the third inning, scoring on a wild pitch after getting on base with a single to right and advancing to third on a single by Allie Reinhart.
However, the Matadors responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third, with both runs coming as results of sacrifice flies.
The contest remained knotted at 2-2 until the fifth inning when a solo home run by Savannah Horvath gave CSUN a 3-2 lead. The Matadors' Daphne Pofek allowed just one Creighton hit in the remaining two innings to secure the narrow win for CSUN.
UC RIVERSIDE
Despite falling behind, 2-0, to UC Riverside in their second and final matchup of the day, the Bluejays used a two-run third inning to pull the game even.
Junior first baseman Jen Daro belted a two-out single to left field to score O'Gorman and Kelsey Allender, tying the game at 2-2.
Neither team plated a run over the next three innings, allowing the game to enter the final inning remaining in a deadlock.
With two outs and a runner on first, UC Riverside capitalized on a Creighton fielding error to extend the inning. The Highlanders made the most of the opportunity, piecing together consecutive singles (Sanchez, Harris) and a double (Holley) to scratch across three runs.
The Bluejays were retired in order in their final frame, with UC Riverside sealing the 5-2 victory.
Michal Hylton, Eck, and Whitney each saw action in the pitchers' circle for Creighton. Eck, who tossed four and one-third innings of scoreless softball, led the Bluejays with five strikeouts.
