Herbers & Jereb Honored By BIG EAST With Scholar-Athlete Awards

NEW YORK – Creighton's Fabian Herbers and Melanie Jereb have been honored by the BIG EAST Conference with Institutional Male and Female Scholar-Athlete Awards, presented by Sunkist. Each institutional winner receives $2,000 towards graduate studies.
Herbers was a First Team All-American for the Creighton men's soccer team that reached the Elite Eight, while Jereb was an outside hitter and defensive specialist for Creighton's volleyball team that advanced to the Sweet 16.
The BIG EAST Scholar-Athletes of the Year were both from St. John's, with Rachel Daly (soccer) winning the female award and Thomas Hackimer (baseball) taking the male award, earning each a total of $4,000 in scholarship money. The Conference will also announce a Men's Basketball and Women's Basketball Scholar Athlete of the Year leading up to their conference tournaments in March.
Twenty student-athletes (one male and one female from each of the BIG EAST's 10 member institutions) will be named as BIG EAST Institutional Scholar-Athlete award winners.
