Bluejays Suffer Sweep at Fresno State, Falling 7-3

Fresno, Calif. - Despite two RBI singles from sophomore Keith Oren, the Creighton Baseball team dropped a 7-3 contest at Fresno State.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 0-3 on the season, while Fresno State moved to 3-0. The last time the Bluejays suffered a series sweep on the opening weekend was the 2014 season when Arkansas-Little Rock swept Creighton.
The top of the first began very promising for the Bluejays as junior Daniel Woodrow singled to left. After junior Nicky Lopez forced Woodrow at second, senior Ryan Fitzgerald was hit by a pitch and senior Reagan Fowler drew a walk to load the bags with just one out. Creighton, however, were denied the lead as a double play ended the Bluejay threat.
The Bulldogs took advantage of the momentum as well as Bluejay error to plate a run in the bottom of the first. Fresno State added a run in the second, then got a three-run blast from Aaron Arruda down the left field line in the third.
Down 6-0 in the top of the seventh, the Bluejays got on the board with two runs on two hits. Senior Harrison Crawford drew a one-out walk to get things started, then senior Brett Murray laced an RBI triple into center. The next Bluejay batter, sophomore Keith Oren, continued the rally with an RBI single to right.
After a scoreless eighth, Crawford tried to rally his team once more with a double to right-center. With two down Oren came through a second time, pushing a single into right for his second RBI. The Bluejay rally, however, ended on a grounder to third.
Creighton starter Keith Rogalla suffered the loss (0-1), allowing five runs on five hits and three walks in 2.1 innings. Meanwhile Fresno State's Anthony Arias held the Bluejays scoreless in six innings of work to move to 1-0.
Oren closed the game 2-for-2 with two RBI.
Creighton returns to action on Friday, Feb. 26 as the Bluejays begin a three-game series with Stetson at 5:30 pm (CT).
