Final tune-up before the BIG EAST Championships
GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The Creighton women's golf team placed 14th at the Bobcat Spring Invitational on Tuesday, April 12. The Bluejays shot 965 (311+324+330) at the Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz.
Sophomore Sarah Eversman led Creighton after a 236 (78+77+81) and placed in a tie for 40th on the par-72 course that measured 6,305 yards.
Seattle earned the team crown with a three-round 893 (291+309+293). Wyoming placed second after entering the final round tied for first place with Seattle. Wyoming finished one stroke behind the leader with a 294 during Tuesday's third round. The Cowgirls concluded the event at 894 (295+305+294), 15 strokes ahead of Northern Colorado (310+307+292=909) which placed third in the 17-team field.
Northern Colorado's Kala Keltz claimed medalist honors and carded a 219 (71+71+77) to pace a tight leaderboard. Alexus Song (Seattle) stroked a 1-under par 71 during the final round and earned runner-up with a 220 (70+79+71), a single stroke behind Keltz.
Seattle's Dorsey Addicks and Eastern Washington's Marissa Borja tied for third at 221, while Wyoming's Klara Castillo and Kaylee Knadler tied for fifth at 222.
Creighton junior Kelsey Petersen tied for 52nd after carding a 240 (74+81+85), but led the Bluejays and was tied for eighth individually with a first round 2-over par performance.
Senior Grace Yowell stroked a two-day 248 (79+85+84) to tie for 71st.
Freshmen Caroline Lake and Kelsey Johnson rounded out the scoring for Creighton. Lake shot a 251 (80+91+80) and tied for 80th while Johnson tied for 84th after a 252 (82+81+89).
The Bluejays are back in action when they head to Okatie, S.C. for the BIG EAST Championships on April 22-24.
