The incredible story behind the 1991 WAC Softball Tournament
On May 11th (and 12th), 1991, Creighton and Utah Softball met in the longest softball game in NCAA history. Today is the 25th anniversary of that incredible day.
Game one remains the longest game in NCAA Softball history. Less than a half-hour later, the same two teams played the third-longest game on record.
You can read the Omaha World-Herald's original recap from May 13, 1991. To commemorate the 20th-anniversary of the game, both White and Blue Review (at http://whiteandbluereview.com/20-years-later-creighton-softball-helps-make-ncaa-history) and the Omaha World-Herald (at http://www.gocreighton.com/fls/1000/pdf/OWH-5-11-11.pdf) penned extensive looks at one of the most famous doubleheaders ever played.
ESPN.com also wrote a long story about the games to commemorate the 25th anniversary in 2016, which can be viewed here: http://espn.go.com/espnw/sports/article/15500315/marking-25th-anniversary-longest-softball-game-ncaa-history-utah-creighton-1991.
