Men's Basketball Matches Best Start Ever With 101-69 Win

Crieghton never trails in 32-point win over Division II foe
OMAHA, Neb. -- The No. 8 Creighton men's basketball team matched its best start in program history with a 101-69 win over Truman State on Saturday before a sellout crowd of 17,466.
Creighton improved to 17-1 overall, tying the 2012-13 club for the most wins to start a season with one or fewer losses. The game counted as an exhibition for Truman State, a Division II team who was playing its third game in as many days. The Bulldogs are coached by Chris Foster, who played for Creighton head coach Greg McDermott from 2001-05 at Northern Iowa.
Marcus Foster led Creighton with 21 points, while Justin Patton had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Truman State was led by 10 points from Connor Erickson.
Creighton started the game with three-pointers by Marcus Foster and Cole Huff and never trailed while surging to a 17-3 lead after six minutes. The lead never dipped below 10 the rest of the game, though the Bulldogs did use an 11-2 run to end the half to get within 45-34 at intermission.
Marcus Foster started the second half with the first six points, including a post move that led to a dunk and a windmill dunk in transition, as the lead returned to 17 at 51-34. The onslaught continued as Davion Mintz scored five points during a 13-0 run to move ahead 75-46. The lead reached 30 with 5:34 left after a lay-up from Ronnie Harrell Jr. made it 86-56.
All 26 players in the game scored, 13 on each side. Creighton shot 50.6 percent for the game and was 10-of-28 from downtown. Creighton won the rebound battle 55-29, and turned 16 offensive rebounds into 23 second chance points. CU also scored 58 points in the paint on the afternoon.
Creighton returns to action on Monday with a 1 pm Central game at No. 15 Xavier.
