Men's Tennis Completes Saturday Sweep Of North Dakota and William Jewell

Bluejays defeat North Dakota 7-0, William Jewell 6-1
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's tennis team won a pair of matches on Saturday at the Hanscom Tennis Center against North Dakota and William Jewell.
The Bluejays defeated the Fighting Hawks 7-0 during the afternoon, and the Cardinals 6-1 in the nightcap.
Creighton's win over North Dakota marked the Jays first win of the 2017 campaign, and are now 2-2 after the first two weeks of the spring.
Wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles gave the Bluejays an early point against the Fighting Hawks. Aaron Chalstrom and Armando Gandini clinched the No. 2 victory, 6-0, while Alex Koca and Mac Mease paired up for a 6-1 win at No. 3.
Harrison Lang and Daniel Lopez-Rey fell 5-4 in a tiebreaker following the conclusion of the other two matches.
In singles, all six Bluejays picked up straight-sets victories.
Lang defeated his opponent 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Lopez-Rey won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6.
Chalstrom clinched the overall match victory with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.
Jake Glazer won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5, Gandini picked up a win at No. 1 (6-3, 7-6) and Koca claimed the No. 3 position victory, 7-6, 6-4.
Creighton closed the day with a 6-1 win over William Jewell.
The doubles teams of Brooks Kendall and Lang, Lopez-Rey and Koca and Michael Koch and Chalstrom each picked up victories to help the Bluejays clinch the doubles point.
Lang kicked off the singles play with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles, and Chalstrom claimed a victory at No. 3, 6-2, 6-2.
Gandini's 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 gave Creighton its fourth point necessary to win the dual.
Lopez-Rey fell 7-5 in his opening set, but came back to clinch a deciding set with a 6-2 victory in the second frame. Timo Kiesslich and Lopez-Rey went toe-to-toe in the third set, but Kiesslich came out with a 10-8 win for the Cardinals' lone point of the night.
Glazer (No. 5) and Mease (No. 6) also picked up singles victories for the Jays.
Creighton returns to the courts on Feb. 4 on the road against Wichita State. The match is was originally scheduled for Jan. 13 but was postponed because of an ice storm.

"Our guys played well today and tonight with just a couple of slip ups," head coach Tom Lilly said. "We have many players competing at high levels, and it will be difficult to make a lineup each week; but that is a good problem to have."
