Scouting Butler (10-1-4, 3-0-3 BIG EAST)
The Bulldogs breezed through non-conference action with an 7-1-1 record, including seven consecutive wins to roll into BIG EAST play. Butler continued their roll with a 3-0 win over Marquette to open conference play on Sept. 24.
Since the match with the Golden Eagles, however, Butler's offense has struggled. The Bulldogs have scored just four goals in five BIG EAST contests.
While the offense has struggled, Butler's defense has limited their opposition to just three goals this season. During BIG EAST action Butler has allowed one goal to Providence and one to DePaul in its last match.
The interesting thing about how strong the Butler defense is that goalkeepers Hannah Luedtke and Leonie Doege split time in most matches. Doege has the slight edge with just under 729 minutes (728:26) and just one goal allowed for a 0.12 goals against average. Luedtke, meanwhile, has allowed two goals in 720 minutes for a 0.25 goals against average.
Meola Nabs Second Consecutive BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Sophomore McKenzie Meola and junior Kaira Houser were honored for their play against Villanova. Meola collected her second consecutive BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week award and Houser was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Monday, Oct. 16.
Meola earned the back-to-back honor by making six saves in a 1-0 win over Villanova. The sophomore's afternoon was highlighted by denying a Wildcat penalty kick with 2:10 left in regulation to keep Villanova off the scoreboard. After Meola and the Bluejay defense stopped a Villanova corner seconds later, Houser collected the ball then raced over 60 yards for the game-winning goal.
Bluejays Post Third Consecutive Result for Just Second Time In BIG EAST Play
The victory over Villanova coupled with back-to-back ties at Georgeot (Oct. 5) and at Seton Hall (Oct. 8) marked just the second time since joining the BIG EAST that Creighton has posted three consecutive results. The last time did so was in 2013, netting a tie with St. John's (Sept. 29) followed by wins over Providence (Oct. 3) and Seton Hall (Oct. 6). Creighton has never collected four consecutive results in BIG EAST action.
Creighton Searching for the Corner
The Bluejays have not had earned a corner in just under four matches, as Creighton's last corner kick came at the 1:02 mark against DePaul on Oct. 1. Entering the match with Butler the total is 398:58 since the last angled entry.
