Women's Basketball Nipped By #5 UCLA, 72-63

Las Vegas, Nev. -- Despite a strong effort that led to a 24-17 lead after one period, the Creighton women's basketball team fell to #5 UCLA 72-63 in the second game for both teams at the South Point Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 25.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 3-3 on the season, while UCLA moved to 5-1.
Down 5-4 early in the opening quarter (7:05), junior Audrey Faber pushed the Bluejays ahead with a trey from the left wing. Sophomore Ali Greene followed with two free throws to make it 9-5 (6:07). UCLA battled back to within a bucket at 14-12 (3:16), but the Bluejays responded by sandwiching treys from freshman Temi Carda and Faber around a Bruin free throw to build its largest lead of the game 20-13 (1:50). The Bluejays held their seven-point edge to the end of the quarter at 24-17.
UCLA opened the second quarter quickly with an 8-2 run to get within a point, but another three-ball from Carda and a jumper from senior Bailey Norby gave Creighton back some distance at 31-25 (5:36). The Bruins, however, closed the half on an 11-4 run to take a 36-35 lead into the break.
The Bruins pushed their advantage to as much as 14 points (57-43) in the third, keeping Creighton at arm's length the rest of the way.
Sophomore Jaylyn Agnew led the Bluejays with 15 points in the loss, while Faber and Carda posted 13 and 12 points respectively. UCLA got a game-high 17 points from Kennedy Burke, while Monique Billings had 12 points and Lajahna Drummer posted 10.
Creighton is back in action on Sunday, Dec. 3 as the Bluejays travel to Des Moines, Iowa to face Drake at 2:00 pm (CT).
