Men's Tennis Drops Match 6-1 At Wichita State

Bluejays pick up wins at No. 3 doubles and No. 5 singles
WICHITA, Kan. -- The Creighton men's tennis team fell 6-1 against Wichita State on Saturday at the Genesis Health Club in Wichita, Kan.
The Bluejays dropped to 2-3, while the Shockers improved to 2-3.
Wichita State won at No. 1 and No. 2 to clinch the doubles point. Creighton pulled out a victory at No. 3 doubles as Mac Mease and Alex Koca picked up a 7-5 win.
Mease and Koca improved to 3-0 during 2017 at the No. 3 position.
The Shockers took the overall match with five straight-sets victories. Wichita State's 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles sealed the overall dual.
Brooks Kendall secured the lone singles victory for the Bluejays at the No. 5 position. Kendall cruised to a 6-1 opening-set win, but Wichita State's Murkel Dellien forced a deciding third set with a 6-3 win in the second frame. In the final game, neither player gave an inch, but it was the Bluejays' junior that ended the night with the 7-6 (8-6 in tiebreaker) third-set victory for his first singles victory this season.

"The guys competed really well against a very strong Wichita state team," head coach Tom Lilly said. "The Shockers have the talent to be ranked high, and we competed with them in many spots.
"Our doubles started off real slow and part of that was the level on the other side, but we need to be more assertive and aggressive to start. We will continue to improve and play a strong UNO team next Friday and will need to play very well."
