Sarah Eversman leads Creighton for fifth straight meet
OKATIE, S.C. -- Another strong performance by Sarah Eversman helped the Creighton women's golf team to a sixth-place finish at the BIG EAST Championships, presented by Jeep.
A junior from Scottsdale, Ariz., Eversman led the Bluejays for a fifth straight meet, putting together rounds of 77, 79 and 77 to place 15th overall. Eversman closes the year with a scoring average of 78.89, the best mark by a Bluejay in more than a dozen years.
Sophomores Sydney Gillespie and Kelsey Johnson both tied for 22nd place with totals of 244. Gillespie had rounds of 80, 82 and 82, while Johnson fired an opening-round 83 before improving with circuits of 81 and 80.
Caroline Lake sandwiched rounds of 78 with a second-round 90 to place 28th with a 246 total, while senior Kelsey Petersen closed her campaign with rounds of 83, 91 and 81 to take 30th place with a 246 aggregate.
After three straight runner-up finishes, Georgetown won the meet by nine strokes to claim its first BIG EAST title in program history and clinch the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals. The Hoyas were led by Lauren Gros, who tied for second place with a 222 showing. That was four shots behind Butler's Lauren Tibbets, who had a 218 total, including the best rounds of the tournament on both Saturday (71) and Sunday (70).
The meet was played at the par 72 Callawassie Island course that measured 5,925 yards.
The BIG EAST Championships marked the final competition of the spring for the Bluejays, and closes out the careers of Petersen as well as senior classmate Annie Pearson.
