Women's Golf Places 12th at MSU SoCal Spring Invitational

CAMARILLO, Calif. -- The Creighton Women's Golf team took 12th place at the MSU SoCal Spring Invitational, which wrapped up Tuesday in Camarillo, Calif.
Morgan Becker was Creighton's top performer, turning in rounds of 79, 73 and 74 for a 226 total. That was good for a tie for 29th place.
Katharine Marshall was one of three Bluejays to tie for 42nd place, as she followed an 80 on Sunday with back-to-back rounds of 75 for a 230 total. Playing as an individual, Kayla Maletto showed remarkable consistency during the tournament, starting with a 76 on Sunday and following it with loops of 77 on both Monday and Tuesday with a 230 total. Julia Karmazin tied Marshall and Maletto in 42nd place with circuits of 78, 78 and 74 to accumulate her 230 aggregate.
Madison Murnan (80-78-77=235) tied for 61st place with a 235 total and Karsen Morrison wrapped up her week in 90th place with rounds of 89, 88 and 90 for a 267 total.
Nebraska (295-283-284=862) won the team title by 13 shots over Notre Dame (301-285-289=875) and Cal State Northridge (305-276-299=880). The tournament featured 15 teams and 90 competitors on the Sterling Hills Golf Course, which measured 5,900 yards on its Par 71 layout. Notre Dame's Alexsandra Lapple (72-67-71=210) posted a two-shot victory over Nebraska's Lauren Thiele (75-67-70=212) for medalist honors.
Among the schools that Creighton (317-304-300=921) beat was BIG EAST newcomer Providence, which placed 15th after turning in scores of 334, 333 and 328 for a 995 team score.
Creighton is back in action on March 23-24 at the Bell Bank Pay It Forward Collegiate in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
