Three-Point Barrage Buries Georgetown As Men's Basketball Thumps Hoyas, 90-66

Davion Mintz ties career-high with 17 points
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Creighton drained 10 three-pointers in the first half and 16 overall, never trailing as it posted a 90-66 win at Georgetown on Saturday afternoon at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. The win was Creighton's first five tries on the road against Georgetown.
Creighton improved to 13-3 with the victory and is 3-1 in the BIG EAST, while the Hoyas dropped to 11-4 and 1-3 in league action.
Creighton wasted no time heating up the nets on a frigid day in Washington, D.C., getting three-pointers from Davion Mintz and Toby Hegner to start the game with a 6-0 lead. Mintz and Hegner would both hit another trey to make it 12-3 before the first media timeout. A short time later seven points in a row by Khyri Thomas gave CU a 21-11 lead and prompted a timeout from Hoyas coach Patrick Ewing.
Hegner maintained his hot touch, burying two more treys during an 11-0 run as Creighton's lead reached as large as 45-21 before the Hoyas scored the final six points of the first half. Creighton shot 10-of-22 from three-point range in the opening 20 minutes, won the rebound battle 20-18, and had 16 assists on 17 first half buckets. Georgetown closed the half with just one field goal in the final 5:40 and were shot 8-of-27 (29.6 percent) before the break.
The Bluejays continued their shooting barrage to open the second half, as Marcus Foster, Mintz, Martin Krampelj and Thomas all connected from long-range in the first five minutes of the second stanza.
Creighton's lead never slipped under 19 points in the second half.
Hegner led Creighton with a season-high 19 points, while Mintz tied his career-best with 17 points and added six assists without a turnover in 21 minutes. Krampelj contributed a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Khyri Thomas finished with 15 points. Marcus Foster had nine points, as his streak of 33 straight games in double-figures was snapped. CU hit 16-of-36 three-point shots overall and dished 24 assists on 33 baskets.
Jagan Mosely paced Georgetown with 11 points off the bench. Jessie Govan was limited to seven points and five rebounds.
Creighton returns home on Tuesday, Jan. 9th when it hosts Butler 7:30 p.m. Gates will open 6 p.m., with $1 beverages until tip-off. The contest will air on 1620 AM and be televised nationally on FS1.
