Scouting Providence (9-16, 2-11 BE)
After opening the season 6-3, Providence has found victories hard to come by, going 3-13 including a loss to Creighton at DJ Sokol Arena 73-56.
The Friars two conference wins have both came from St. John's
Offensively the Friars offense is guided by the duo of Jovana Nogic (16.8 ppg) and Maddie Jolin (11.0 ppg). The duo also have 83 of the squads 286 assists (30%).
In BIG EAST action the Friars have found some stability at the point guard with the emergence of Chanell Williams. Standing just 5'4'', Williams has started 11 of Providence's 13 conference contests. She has taken over as the third option for the squad with 8.8 ppg in BIG EAST play and leads the Friars with 39 assists in conference.
Keys Against Providence
Carda Claims First BIG EAST Freshman of the Week Honor, While Faber Nabs An Honor Roll Nod
Bluejay freshman Temi Carda claimed her first BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honor on Monday, Feb. 5. Carda came off the bench in the Bluejays' challenging road swing at NR/RV DePaul and RV/RV Marquette to average 12.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists. Temi shot 47.4% from the field and 60.0% from long range.
The rookie scored in double figures in both tilts, including 13 points and five rebounds in Sunday's crucial win over the Golden Eagles. Despite the reserve role, Carda was third on the team in scoring last week and tied for the top average by a rookie in the BIG EAST.
Another Bluejay collecting accolades this week was junior Audrey Faber, who was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll. Faber averaged 14.5 points, 5.0 rebounds 3.5 assists and knocked down 44.8 percent from the field, highlighted by scoring the game-winning and-one at Marquette on Sunday.
Carda, Faber and the rest of the Bluejays face off with Creighton's travel partner Providence this week in Rhode Island on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 11 am (CT).
Faber's Flair Dramatics
The game-winning shot at Marquette added to junior Audrey Faber's legacy, yet it wasn't the first time this season she swooped in to lift the Bluejays in the closing seconds.
At Marquette Faber stamped her name on the game at Marquette, scoring 16 points and
securing eight rebounds. None more important, however, than her drive to the basket with 2.1 seconds to make the bucket and get fouled in a traditional three-point play to give the Bluejays a 74-73 win.
Trailing 92-90 with just two seconds left in the third overtime at Drake (Dec. 3, 2017),  Creighton went to Faber. That time she drew a foul, forcing a fourth extra session with two free throws.
Lamberty at Her Best When Wounded
Lamberty has a knack for having big games while under the weather. While battling the flu her freshman year, she went for 18 points, four rebounds and three steals at Providence (Jan. 16, 2015) . Sydney scored 21 and recorded six assists while battling illness against Nebraska-Omaha on Dec. 10, 2017, before posting 18 points and seven assists with strep throat against Marquette.

Keys Against Providence
- Fight Emotional Hangovers: After the thrill of earning the upset at Marquette on Sunday, Creighton will benefit from the extra day to focus on the Friars.
- Keep Shooters Hot: Four Bluejay players averaged double-digit scoring over the weekend road trip against DePaul and Marquette. If Lamberty (16.0), Faber (14.5), Carda (12.5), and Agnew (11.5) continue to shoot this well, Creighton will prove tough to beat.
- Slow Down Nogic: Finding a way to make other Friars make plays will be key, as Providence is only 1-8 when Jovana Nogic is not leading the scoring for the Friars.
