Omaha, Neb. - The Creighton women's basketball team is returning to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time under head coach Jim Flanery and the seventh time in program history. The Bluejays are 4-6 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, splitting two games last season.
The 11th-seeded Bluejays will face No. 6 Iowa in Los Angeles, Calif. on Saturday, March 17 at 5:00 pm (CT).
Creighton is 5-7 all-time against Iowa, dropping the last four meetings with Hawkeyes. The last time the two teams met was on Nov. 26, 2006. Iowa claimed that game 75-69. Saturday will be the first time the Bluejays and Hawkeyes will face off on a neutral floor. Although the two teams haven't played an official game since 2006, they have played a preseason scrimmage during each of the last five seasons.
Creighton and Iowa will play the second game on Saturday, March 17 at approximately 5:00 pm (CT). The No. 3 seed and host, UCLA, will battle No. 13 American at 3:00 pm (CT), with the Bluejays and Hawkeyes tipping off 30 minutes following the conclusion of game one.
The bracket was unveiled on Monday evening on ESPN, with the team gathering at D.J. Sokol Arena to watch the Selection Show in the Jensen Family Lounge.
Creighton enters the NCAA Tournament with an 18-12 overall record. The Bluejays finished fourth in the BIG EAST Conference at 11-7, then advanced to the semifinals of the BIG EAST Tournament. Three Bluejays received post-season recognition.
In his 16th season at the helm for the Bluejays, Flanery owns a 311-203 record. He has guided the Bluejays to 20+ wins nine times, while that plateau was reached eight times in the previous 29 seasons.
