Creighton vs. St. John's Series History
Creighton trails the series with the Red Storm by 8-7 games, but Creighton has one three of the last four matchups.
The Red Storm, however, have had the Bluejays' number in the postseason. St. John's has taken all four meetings with Creighton in postseason play, three in the BIG EAST Tournament and once in the NCAA Tournament.
Scouting St. John's (16-13, 9-9 BE)
St. John's is a team that has been driven by defense since head coach Joe Tartamella took the reigns. This season the Red Storm story remains the same.
The Red Storm limit the opposition to just 61. 6 ppg.
That total lowers to 59.8 in BIG EAST Play. Two keys to St. John's defensive prowess is strong guard pressure that forces turnovers and an imposing presence in the paint. Maya Singleton fills the second role, while the combination of BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Qadashah Hoppie, Tiana England and Alisha Kebbe fill the former.
In the first meeting with the Bluejays, the Red Storm got a superb performance from England as she posted 17 points and 10 assists. That allowed St. John's to deliver Creighton's lone overtime loss of the season.
The second matchup saw the Bluejays turn the tables with physical play from Ali Greene and overall tenacious defense as Creighton limited St. John's to just 39 points.
Keys Against St. John's
Creighton and St. John's Postseason History began in 2012
Creighton's rivalry with St. John's began just before the two met as BIG EAST foes as in the Bluejays first trip to the NCAA Tournament under current head coach Jim Flanery in 2012.
Entering the Tournament as a No. 14 seed after claiming the MVC automatic berth with a Tournament victory, the Bluejays met No. 3 St. John's in Norman, Okla. The Red Storm opened the game on an 8-0 run and held a 19-9 edge with 12 minutes left in the first half. Creighton responded with a 17-6 surge to claim a 26-25 lead (5:08) and went into halftime down just 34-32.
Creighton remained in striking distance throughout the second half, knotting the game at 65-65 with just 51 seconds to play. The two squads traded free throws, with current Bluejay assistant coach Carli Tritz making it 67-67 with five seconds left.
St. John's, however, went the length of the floor to claim the win on a tear drop five footer from Nadirah McKenith.
Another Battle Between Blue and Red
Comfortable battling a team clad in red, the Bluejays have extensive history with St. John's in the postseason. Following the NCAA Tournament loss in 2012, the Bluejays became BIG EAST foes with St. John's prior to the 2013-14 season, the two squads met up in each of Creighton first three BIG EAST Tournaments. Each time the Red Storm came out of top, but the Bluejays will try to tip fortune to their favor in 2018.

Keys Against St. John's
- Match the Red Storm's Physical Play: Creighton was out rebounded 47-30 in the first meeting, allowing 18 offensive boards to the Red Storm. In the second meeting the Bluejays won the battle of the boards and subsequently the game.
- Take Care of the Rock: St. John's forces 16 turnovers per game. Last weekend the Bluejays gave away 15 in a loss to Georgetown. Simply put, the Bluejays cannot give easy points to St. John's via steals that result in layups.
- Move the Ball and Be Shot Ready: Running a motion offense requires a team to find the open player and constantly be ready to shoot. Against the Red Storm the Bluejays must be ready and willing to take and make the shot if open.
