Softball Drops Midweek Duel To Nebraska, 6-2

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Creighton softball team fell to Nebraska, 6-2, on Wednesday night at Bowlin Stadium during the first meeting between the Bluejays and Huskers in Lincoln since 2015.
The Bluejays moved to 11-10 while Nebraska improved to 21-9.
Creighton lead-off hitter Ashley Cantu started the top of the first inning with an infield hit and Hope Moreno singled with two outs but the Bluejays did not break into the run column.
The Huskers opened the home half of the first frame with a pair of RBI singles to take a 2-0 lead.
Nebraska added a run during the bottom of the third before Creighton cut into the deficit in the top of the fourth. Jayci McGill lifted a 1-2 delivery into left field for her team-leading sixth double of the season and drove in pinch-runner Sydney Jenkins from first base to make it 3-1 in favor of the host Huskers.
The Huskers countered with one during the bottom of the fifth and added two more runs with a home run during the bottom of the sixth to build a five-run lead, 6-1.
The Bluejays put two on with one out during their final at bat and managed one run. McGill and pinch-hitter Nikki McNeil each walked and Cantu singled through the left side to drive in pinch-runner Courtney Sandell. The Huskers recorded a strikeout to end the game with runners at first and third.
Cantu finished the night 3-for-4 as the Bluejays tallied six hits as a team.
Creighton returns to action this weekend and opens BIG EAST play against St. John's. The Bluejays and Red Storm are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday before playing a single game on Sunday.
