Creighton wins its sixth out of last seven matches
ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Creighton women's tennis team continue its winning ways and undefeated run in Florida as the Bluejays rolled past Niagara University in a 6-1 victory on Wednesday afternoon.
With the win, Creighton moved to 9-4 on the year, including four straight victories and six wins during the team's last seven matches.
Ashley Ishimura and Michaela Henne combined for a 6-3 victory to open up doubles play and an early advantage for the Bluejays. Claire Embree and Erin Epperson added a 6-3 victory of their own at the No. 2 spot to seal the doubles point before the duo of Kendra Lavallee and Darby Rosette insured a sweep in doubles, taking a 6-4 win heading into singles play.
Embree continued the momentum into singles play, starting the Bluejays off with a 6-3, 6-0 win at the No. 4 spot. Ishimura also joined the win column as she earned a 6-2, 6-1 decision at No. 1. Down 3-0, Niagara clinched to life with a victory at the No. 3 spot, but only for a short margin as Celine Massereau earned the Bluejays the overall win after a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 5. Wins at No. 2 from Erin Epperson, as well as at No. 6 from Ashley Monaco, finished the afternoon off for the Jays. Monaco's result during her second match this season after off-season hip surgery marked her first victory since March 19, 2017.
"Our team showed their depth once again," head coach Tom Lilly said. "Holding Michaela out after doubles due to an injury made everyone else step up.
This was another good win for the girls considering the windy conditions and playing without our number two. We are looking to end on a positive note again tomorrow."
