Women's Tennis Drops Neutral Site Match Against Air Force
1/20/2019 1:15:00 PM | Women's Tennis
LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Creighton women's tennis team fell 7-0 to Air Force during a neutral site match in Lincoln, Nebraska on Sunday morning.
The Bluejays dropped their dual record to 0-2, while the Falcons improved to 3-0.
Creighton and Air Force split the top two doubles matches before the Falcons secured the first point of the dual with a come-from-behind victory at the third position.
Air Force claimed the No. 2 doubles spot without dropping a game before senior Ashley Ishimura and freshman Sarah Wilcox combined for a 6-3 win at the top slot. In the deciding No. 3 doubles match, the Falcons battled from behind to conclude doubles play.
Ishimura and Wilcox defeated Air Force's T.J. Fumagalli and Kristin Kerrigan who are ranked No. 35 nationally in the Oracle/ITA Division I Women's Rankings.
In singles action, Creighton forced two sets to 12 games (7-5 results), but Air Force earned straight-sets victories at all six positions for the clean sweep.
"Unfortunately, today we were unable to capitalize in the doubles after our top team beat a nationally ranked duo," head coach Tom Lilly said. "We had chances to take the doubles point, and against a strong team like Air Force you need to the make the best of those opportunities.
"We will continue to get better and get ready for a tough Drake team next Saturday."
The Bluejays and Bulldogs will matchup on Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa at 1 p.m.
