Women's Tennis Sends Two To Main Draw During Qualifying Day At ITA Central Regional

Sarah Wilcox and Emma Gener advanced to the main draw of singles
NORMAN, Okla. -- Sarah Wilcox and Emma Gener each advanced to the Singles Main Draw with pairs of straight-sets victories in qualifying action on Thursday as the Creighton women's tennis team opened play at the 2019 ITA Central Regional, hosted by the University of Oklahoma.
Wilcox earned a 6-3, 6-2 win in the first round before collecting a 6-2, 6-4 win in the second round, while Gener started with a 6-2, 6-2 victory and ended the day with a 6-0, 6-2 win.
Wilcox and Gener join Creighton freshman Kate Krueger in the main draw round of 128. Krueger did not play on Thursday and automatically earned a spot in the main draw.
Erin Epperson also competed for the Bluejays and went 1-1 during singles qualifying play on Thursday.
The junior and Oklahoma native dropped her first match but claimed a straight-sets win in a qualifying consolation match.
"After a long, miserable day travel day yesterday due to a flat tire and many delays, our girls work up early after only six hours of sleep and competed well," head coach Tom Lilly said. "We are looking forward to some tough competition tomorrow in the main draws."
Doubles play for the Bluejays starts tomorrow morning Gener and Epperson will pair up and face a team from Bradley, while Krueger and Wilcox will face a 16th-seeded squad from Kansas.
Action in the main draw of singles will start after doubles play.
