Bluejays competed in main draw of both doubles and singles
NORMAN, Okla. -- The Creighton women's tennis team had four players compete in both doubles and singles play on Friday during main draw action at the 2019 ITA Central Regional, hosted by the University of Oklahoma.
The Bluejays started Friday with Round of 64 doubles action. Emma Gener and Erin Epperson battled to a tiebreaker against a pair from Bradley but fell 8-7 (5). The Creighton duo held match point before dropping the contest.
Kate Krueger and Sarah Wilcox paired up and fell 8-3 to a 16th-seeded duo from Kansas.
Gener, Krueger and Wilcox also competed in the main singles draw. Each fell in straight-sets during the round of 128.Â
Krueger rebounded for a straight-sets win in the consolation portion of the main singles draw. The Bluejay freshman earned a 6-2, 6-2 win against an Iowa State opponent.
"We are disappointed that no one advanced today after a strong first day," head coach Tom Lilly said. "We had opportunities in a few matches but just didn't play well enough in big moments against strong competition. I believe the four that played all improved this week, which is a positive that we can take away."Â
Friday's action concluded Creighton's fall season. The Bluejays will open the spring season during the final week of January. Creighton is scheduled to host 10 home matches during the 2020 Spring Season.
