Nick Campbell and Mac Mease Advance To Round of 16 Doubles At ITA Central Regional

Bluejays ended day one of regional with 4-2 record during doubles
NORMAN, Okla. -- Nick Campbell and Mac Mease paired up to win two doubles matches on Thursday as the Creighton men's tennis team competed during the first day of the 2019 ITA Central Regional, hosted by the University of Oklahoma.
Campbell and Mease outlasted their second opponent of the day during a tiebreaker to advance to Friday's Round of 16. The Bluejay duo saved one match point in the tiebreaker before rallying for a 10-8 win in the breaker against a seeded pair from Tulsa.
Mease paired with Stratton Brown last year and reached the round of 16 doubles at the 2018 ITA Central Regional in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Creighton ended the first round of doubles play with three victories. Mease and Campbell won 8-5, while Brown and Joe Hoff tallied an 8-3 victory and Armando Gandini and Luke Moorhead paired for an 8-6 win.
The Bluejays ended the day with a 4-2 record in doubles action.
Joe Hoff recorded the Bluejays' lone victory during singles play. The junior dropped his first set 6-2, but rallied from behind to win 6-4 in the second frame and 6-3 in the deciding set.
Play at the regional in Norman, Oklahoma continues on Friday morning. Mease and Campbell will compete in the Round of 16 doubles at 8:30 a.m. against Nebraska's Albert Sprlak Puk and Patrick Cacciatore. Hoff and Jose Oscar Diaz will compete in the main draw of singles action following the conclusion of doubles. Diaz received a bye into the Round of 64 singles.
