Women Third; Men Fifth at Rim Rock Classic in Lawrence

Start of meet delayed by lightning
LAWRENCE, Kan. -- The Creighton cross country teams battled stormy conditions at the Rim Rock Farm Collegiate Classic on Saturday, October 5.
The Bluejay women wound up in third place, and the CU men placed fifth. Host school Kansas won both races. The start of both races was delayed two hours by lightning throughout the Lawrence area.
Sophomore Danielle Hotalling led the Creighton women with an eighth place finish, crossing the finish line on the 6K course in a time of 23:56.8. Hotalling passed five runners in the final mile of the race to secure her third top-10 finish in as many races this fall.
Caroline Pass placed 25th for CU with a time of 24:47.5, just ahead of 26th place finisher Marguerite Hendrickson's time of 24:51.2.
Rounding out the contributors to CU's team score were Katie Fukushima (34th; 25.17.0) and Jordan Harmon (28th; 25.25.4).
The women's race was won by Kansas standout Ally Ryan, who won by 23 seconds in a time of 22.59.3. The women's race contained 11 teams and 102 runners. KU took the team title with 31 points, edging UMKC (39), with Creighton a distant third with 99 points.
Sophomore John Quigley paced the Creighton men, finishing 29th overall. He completed the 8K race in a time of 27:16.9.
Each of CU's next five runners finished within nine places of each other, a grouping led by freshman Michael Buckley in 40th place and a time of 27:55.9.
Nick Monkemeyer took 42nd in a time of 28:04.8, one spot ahead of Danny Bohnemann's 28.14.8 clocking. Micah Navarro was 48th after crossing the tape in 28:23.7, one-tenth of a second ahead of Aidan King.
A pair of unattached runners, Joe Moore (25.30.7) and Chris Melgares (25.31.7) won the men's race, with Kansas senior Michael Melgares (25.47.4) being the top collegian in the 125-competitor race. Kansas won the team total with 17 points, easily holding off Northern Colorado (50).
CU returns to the course on October 18 at the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria, Ill.
